  • 1. What makes flyCaravelle so special?

It is an original cockpit that actually flew 37,028 hours. Even the Beatles and Charles de Gaulle flew on board this very aircraft (more in "History of #58"). Modern commercial aircraft mainly fly with autopilot - operating it does not require a great deal of skill. Here, on board the Caravelle, you can experience and understand the craft of flying as it was common back then - with countless "steam gauges", as the old round instruments are often called.
Thanks to a great deal of commitment and love for this fantastic aircraft, we can offer you these low prices, because the costs for such a complex restoration are in the six-figure range. You will also be looked after exclusively by active, real commercial pilots who will be happy to answer your questions. A package that you will not find anywhere else in the world in this form.

  • 3. Can I bring companions with me?

Of course, that's even welcome. Your companion can sit in the co-pilot's seat. You will be looked after by the flight engineer, who sits in the middle of the cockpit. There is room for four people (captain, co-pilot, flight engineer/flight instructor and radio operator). This means there is room for three of you to fly, and another two people can sit on the passenger seats in the cabin - fun for the whole family!

  • 4. Is there an age restriction?

The control pressures on the control columns are quite high due to the original design. Children can hardly move these control columns. We therefore do not allow children under 12 to sit in the pilot seats. However, they are welcome to sit in the so-called "observer seat", the observation seat, directly behind the captain.

  • 5. Isn't the cockpit too complicated for laypeople?

Every modern sports aircraft is better equipped today than the Caravelle of yesteryear. Once you know how and where information is presented, you'll quickly find your way around. We've set up an extensive training page for this purpose. There you'll find videos, drawings of the control panels and explanations.
The Caravelle was very easy to fly - once you've understood the basic principles, nothing stands in the way of your flight being a success. Remember that you have experienced, real pilots at your side who will support you at all times.

  • 1. Does the sim have motion?

That is pretty much the most frequently asked question. Motion, as it is called in technical terms, is definitely overrated here, as it contributes very little to the actual feeling of flying and only has a noticeable effect during takeoff and landing. The visual representation is crucial.
The Caravelle cockpit is 7m long and weighs 3.5 t. Equipping this enormous mass with movement would go beyond the scope and make a simulator flight extremely expensive. In addition, the entire wiring would have to be designed differently. For this purpose, we have installed structure-borne sound transducers under the seats. These vibrate depending on the flight position and thus provide an additional realistic feeling of flying.
By the way, during our six-monthly checks in the simulator, we pilots sometimes don't even notice when the motion is not yet switched on.

  • 2. What can you simulate?

Pretty much anything you can imagine.
Engine fire, bird strike, ice on wings, iced pitot tubes, jammed landing gear or tire blowouts are just a small part of the possible scenarios. Every simulated system can generate errors.
ILS, NDB or VOR approaches can be made. All imaginable weather conditions including wind shear can be set.
